Visitors often ask, "How can we get involved at Park Forest Baptist Church?" Getting involved usually means getting acquainted with people, feeling like part of the church family, growing in your faith, and actively participating in one of the various ministries of Park Forest Baptist Church. We'd like to offer several immediate opportunities to start the process of "getting involved." Here are some suggested alternatives:
- Stop by the Visitor's Table at the front of the auditorium after the Worship Service. It will be an opportunity to meet several people.
- Stay after church for one of our all-church lunch buffets. Our hospitality team provides a delicious buffet meal immediately following the morning service about every six weeks. Usually about 200 people stay. It is a great opportunity to make new friends. The Hospitality Ministry Web page contains more information about the hospitality team.
- Take the initiative to introduce yourself as a new visitor on Sunday morning. The easiest way is simply to say "Hi, my name is ... and I am new at Park Forest. Can you tell me what you like most about the church?" A variety of answers might spark some interesting conversation. You might inquire further about the person's place of origin since most people in State College are from somewhere else. Hobbies are another great topic. The best friend you will ever have may just be the next person you meet.
- Join one of the Sunday school classes listed on the Sunday Schedule. Classes offer an opportunity to learn more about the Bible while at the same time getting to know others in the class. View the Sunday morning Schedule Web page for more information.
- Visit a few of the small groups and pick one to join. Cell groups are gatherings of 8-20 people in
homes for the purpose of fellowship, prayer, and Bible study. People in small groups often become very good
friends. Small groups provide a base for caring for one another and are open groups so anyone can attend at
any time. Visitors are both welcomed and treasured. Check out the current list of small groups on this
Web site: Cell Group Ministry. We suggest visiting a few of the groups
since each group has a different mix of people and a distinct flavor. Just call or E-mail one of the leaders and
confirm the time and location of the next meeting. Expect a good time and go for it!
- Begin the 100 Series. The 100 Series is a step-by-step series of classes designed to take a person from the early stages of spiritual growth and biblical knowledge to a more full and functioning faith. Classes cover a range of topics including Foundations of Faith, New Testament Survey, Doctrines of the Bible, and Spiritual Gifts Discovery. The 200 Series (still in development) progresses further in Bible Doctrine, Old Testament Survey, Leadership Development, and Mission Involvement. Each class in the 100 Series begins anew each quarter during the Sunday school hour. Registration for each class begins several weeks before the new quarter. Just sign up and begin attending. For more information, view the adult Sunday school classes.
- Join a ministry team. Serving alongside of others is a great way to make a difference and make friends at the same time. Feel free to contact one of the ministry team leaders listed under Ministries on the site map for PFBC and discuss with them how you can help.
- Don't hesitate to ask questions or make suggestions. We may have forgotten something or you might want clarification about a particular ministry. Just call the church office. If you have a suggestion for improvement or for a new program, tell us. Your idea might be our biggest future success.
- Remember that "feeling" like part of the church family usually takes time. It takes time to become acquainted with programs and with people. Don't get discouraged.
